About a month or so ago I mentioned to one of my co-worker friends that I've never had sushi before. (Well, I have, but it was at a horrible Chinese restaurant, and I don't really count that experience).
She's somewhat new to sushi also, but she literally lit up when I mentioned it. She said she hadn't tried any of the raw sushi. I told her that there was no way I was going to eat raw fish either, but I was willing to try some with cooked crab or shrimp or that kind of stuff that I like. I'm all about trying new food lately.
So, long story short we went this past week. Besides the normal language awkwardness that is pretty much protocall when ordering at a Chinese/Japanese restaurant, the whole experience was great. We ordered a California roll (which is crab and cucumber and other things I believe), an American roll (which was shrimp tempura, lettuce, and cucumber), Ugandi (something like that, which was a Japanese pickle... had to try that.... it's just a normal pickle pretty much) and another roll that I don't remember the name of, but it's EEL!
I wanted to try it since she said she had tried it already and it was really good. I trusted her, and I'm glad I did. EEL is great! It pretty much tastes like fishy...... chicken. Yep, tastes like chicken!
Mark off another one of my goals in life.... Eat sushi!

So what's this going to be about?
I recently watched the movie "Julie and Julia". I've always loved cooking. It's a way to express my creative side and to do one of my favorite pasttimes... EAT! I love trying out new foods and recipes. Lately, I've found that there are a lot of foods out there that I've never tried. I'm not a particularly picky eater; although I do have a few foods that I WILL NOT EAT (eggs! mayo! beets!)
I was inspired by the movie (and now I'm reading the book) to create my own blog dedicated to my love of food and cooking. I'm sure that it's not going to be nearly as popular or fun as Julie's, but it'll be fun for me and maybe a few other people.
I'm going to mainly post about new foods that I've tried, recipes, and basically anything I feel like talking about that deals with FOOD!
So, if anybody reads this, thanks for taking the time.
